This committed group of nuns, led by Sister Ruby Clare, support health and education programs for the children and families of Malibay. This community is one of the poorest in the area and most of the families share their homes with other families. The Sisters assist with clothing and food drives as needed, and also with school supplies for the children. Every Saturday the nuns run specific programmes for children, and they also have educational programmes for adults and children throughout the year.
In order to empower the women in the community, DS also run a livelihood project where women are taught to make candles, which they sell to support their families. BWA creates opportunities for them to sell their goods at our Open Houses and at some British School Manila events.
In addition, the BWA also gives them a regular monthly donation, disaster relief and other donations. The monthly amount goes towards the purchase of medical supplies and medicines, as well as the rent and utilities for the community clinic they run. This clinic is one of their main responsibilities and provides medical care at a low cost with a doctor who volunteers at the clinic once a week.
